Person of Courage – Laura

Laura Brewer was a a positive influence and the most beautiful loving woman. She taught Lakota Traditions and Values and how to be a strong woman. She said her rosary every night and she encouraged and loved everyone that she met. She was widowed at 30 when she lost her husband and a son in a fishing trip and then raised 4 sons and a daughter by herself. She could crochet and sew beautiful things. (something I wish she had passed down to me) She put herself through nursing school after working various jobs and became an LPN for 13 years. After retirement she took care of ailing relatives in Idaho and New Mexico. She passed away at the age of 101 leaving a legacy of one son and my mom, along with 25 grandchildren,75 great grandchildren and 32 great great grandchildren. My grandmother always said “Help each other and remember the good”. I miss her everyday..In loving Memory (April 4, 1913 – Oct.19, 2014) ~ Roni Dameron
